Text Photograph

This picture was taken in the mansion at Mercy High School where they had a set-up for an assembly that they were having later in the day. I took this photo to represent the limitless options for one to live by when they are living freely. I also aimed to convey the simplicity that one's life the comes with this choice of lifestyle. I chose to include the podium in the picture because it shows authority in one's life to rule his/her own life. When one is free, he/she controls his/her own life.

My Second Choice Zoo Image

This photo is of a peacock at the San Francisco Zoo. I really like the color of the peacock and how the blues in its feathers stand out from the rest of the background. I also like the proportion of the peacock to the trees. The background helps the peacock stand out even more. Also, I like how the peacock is on a third line, and its tail spans across the rest of the photo.

My Choice Zoo Image

This photo is of a penguin who has been tagged by the zoo to keep track of where it is. I wanted to emphasize that this penguin, along with many other animals, are captive and not free. They are watched after and are not able to roam freely and live freely if they want to. I turned the photo into black-and-white to add a somber feeling and highlight the tag placed on the animal.

Environmental Zoo Photograph

This photo was also taken on our field trip to the San Francisco Zoo. This picture is of the Silver-back Gorilla that is probably the most famous ape in the San Francisco Zoo. I aimed at capturing the gorilla on a third line and get as much of the background in the back as possible. I really like the lighting in this photo. When we were shooting, the sky was overcast, and did not let too much light through. It was the perfect conditions for shooting.

Zoo Pop Art

This is a picture of a kangaroo that I took at the zoo when I went on my class field trip. I focused on making sure I captured the kangaroo up close to get as much detail as possible. With a little editing in Photoshop, I was able to mute out the background and focus on the kangaroo, which is what I was aiming for. I then put the four photos, which I edited differently, together and came out with this.

Polar Bear

This photo was taken at the San Francisco Zoo. Out of my series of photos, this is probably one of my favorite pictures. The lighting when I shot was really soft, and I felt that it was optimal for the conditions we were shooting in. I really like the closeness of the photo and how I captured the detail of the fur on the polar bear.

Photo Essay

For this assignment, we were told to compose a photo essay by taking a series of pictures of similar things, that were all related to one idea. I chose to do my photo essay on Valentine's Day. I noticed a bunch of Beanie Babies on my mantle above my fireplace. I focused on capturing strong values such as reds and pinks to show Valentine's Day and the spirit of it.

I took this photo in my living room. My mom put the decorations from Valentine's Day out and I noticed the heart, which is the epitome of Valentine's Day. I really like the composition of my photo. I like how the heart is in front in focus, with the picture of my mom and her boyfriend, symbolizing the love in action. I feel it offered a cool way to portray Valentine's Day indirectly and directly.
