Photo Essay

For this assignment, we were told to compose a photo essay by taking a series of pictures of similar things, that were all related to one idea. I chose to do my photo essay on Valentine's Day. I noticed a bunch of Beanie Babies on my mantle above my fireplace. I focused on capturing strong values such as reds and pinks to show Valentine's Day and the spirit of it.

I took this photo in my living room. My mom put the decorations from Valentine's Day out and I noticed the heart, which is the epitome of Valentine's Day. I really like the composition of my photo. I like how the heart is in front in focus, with the picture of my mom and her boyfriend, symbolizing the love in action. I feel it offered a cool way to portray Valentine's Day indirectly and directly.

Street Photography

I took this photo at the campus of a local high school. When I first walked past this pathway, I did not think of it to take the photo this way. However, after a second pass, I noticed what this photo came out to be. I like how the photo is balanced with the path down the middle, acting like a line, and the plants on either side balancing it out.

Chapel Architecture

I took this photo in the chapel at Mercy High School. The lighting was really low, so i decided to turn it into a black and white photo. After I turned it black and white, I noticed there was a nice contrast between the light values and the dark values.

Panoramic

For this photo assignment, we were told to go out and take a series of photos of a building or landscape, moving the frame slightly in a certain directiono each time. After we took our photos, we headed back to class and edited them with Photoshop and turned the series into one large panoramic photo. The series I took was taken in the morning around 7:30 in a rose garden at a local high school. I was shooting on a low ISO and and lower shutter speed to add for the most detail.
